Please join us Wednesday, May 15th, as we welcome Olivier Lotterie of importer Vineyard Brands to present a tasting and dinner of top-flight wines from South Africa. Chef Jacques on his very recent culinary excursion to the region, arranged by our friend Olivier, visited several wineries, including Boekenhoutskloof and Stark-Condé, and will vouch for their amazing qualities and thirst-quenching powers!

Cape Town was founded by the Dutch East India Company in 1652. The Dutch planted vines, and made wine, sort of…but it took the arrival some thirty years later of French Huguenots (of course) for a wine-making culture to become established. Settling in a region between Paarl and Stellenbosch that was soon known as Franschhoek (the French Quarter), they planted the vineyards that really began South Africa’s wine industry.

Olivier will introduce these fine wines and their producers, explaining what makes them distinctive, expressing a style somewhere between Europe and the New World. A pre-dinner tasting flight of three excellent South African reds—a Syrah and two Cabernets—will be followed by a Chardonnay from the cooler Walker Bay region to the south, and a luscious red blend, accompanied by Chef Jacques cuisine, inspired by his trip.
