Musical Brunch with Guitarist Alex Barnett

Date: April 2, 2017

Musical Brunch with Guitarist Alex Barnett
Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 11:00am

A British journalist coined the word “brunch” in 1895, describing it as a Sunday repast for Saturday night carousers.  Please join Chef Jacques and L’Auberge Chez François on April 2nd at 11am, as we host our musical event featuring classical guitarist Alexander Barnett.

Alex is a Baltimore native who has quickly become a L'Auberge Chez François regular with numerous sold-out events. His music style varies from the Romantic, Classical, and Renaissance eras. We look forward to having Alex return to entertain our guests with his jazz and classical guitar performance.

Chef Jacques has created a special menu for the day including our newest brunch addition, Creekstone Farms Filet Mignon and local Indian Springs Eggs, and a delicious Brioche French Toast with Virginia Maple Syrup. Oh yes, bien sûr, we’ll have plenty of cocktails, including Crémant d’Alsace, Bloody Marys and Mimosas. We hope you will join us for a Sunday afternoon in beautiful Great Falls, Virginia.

Meet the Winemaker with Coeur de Terre Vineyard

Date: April 11, 2017

"Meet the Winemaker" with Coeur de Terre Vineyard
Tuesday, April 11 at 6:30pm

Please join us as we welcome winemaker Scott Neal of Coeur de Terre Winery in Oregon. Coeur de Terre or “Heart of the Earth” was founded in 1998 by Scott and Lisa Neal and is located in the West Hills of McMinnville, known for their geologic diversity and beauty which translates into unique pinot noir.

Chef Jacques is thrilled to host Scott and his delectable wines after a recent visit to the beautiful vineyards of Coeur de Terre in the Willamette Valley. Come for an evening of tasting “handcrafted, sustainable, artisanal and undeniably Oregon wines” paired with a delightful five-course dinner menu.

Chef Jacques’ Seasonal Canapés
Coeur de Terre Pinot Gris 2014

On the palate there is vibrant acidity and lightness that dances on your tongue leading to a focused minerality with flavors reminiscent of sweet Oregon peaches, apricots and grapefruit rind.

Ahi Tuna Martini, Chives and Lemon Zest
Coeur de Terre Oregon Pinot Noir 2013

The McMinnville AVA is known for its intense Pinot Noirs and earthy overtones, and this vintage lives up to these expectations. A bright red color lures you in with signature Coeur de Terre earthy aromatics, dried herbs followed by notes of plum, cherry, blueberry, and raspberry.

Roasted Shitake Mushrooms, Garlic, Garden Thyme
Coeur de Terre Heritage Pinot Noir 2013

Beautifully capturing one if not the coldest Oregon vintage in recent history, this wine is bound to become a classic expression of Oregon Pinot Noir. It first impresses with a beautiful delicate shitake mushroom and wild cherry nose followed by Pacific NW forest floor aromas and spices.

Coeur de Terre Syrah-Braised Veal Osso Bucco, Wild Rice
Coeur de Terre Syrah 2012

Willamette Valley Syrahs are rare, and here’s why. Even in a picture-perfect vintage such as this, the abv doesn’t reach 13%. Nonetheless, this wine merits your attention. Tart and peppery, yet balanced and showing some depth of flavor, it’s a marriage of umami, citrus, raspberry and stem.

Coeur de Terre Estate Reserve Abby’s Block 2012

Brilliant ruby-red. Sexy, highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh dark berries, cherry-cola and incense, with a suave floral quality adding lift. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering sappy black raspberry and rose pastille flavors complicated by hints of vanilla and allspice.

Mango and White Chocolate Gâteau

Gillette’s Locally-roasted Coffee, Selection of Harney and Sons’ Fine Teas

$118.00
excluding tax and gratuity; for a total of 150.00

We are happy to adjust the menu to accommodate guests' dietary restrictions, please email chezlauberge@aol.com with special requests. Patrons will have the opportunity to purchase these wines at a discounted price.

Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant Dinner with Thomas Morgan

Date: April 13, 2017

"Know Your Importers" Dinner with Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant
Thursday, April 13 at 6:30pm

“Importers have played a central, even defining, role in the emergence and growth of American wine culture. Combining impeccable taste with evangelical zeal, people like Kermit Lynch, Robert Chadderdon, Robert Haas, and Terry Theise have not only introduced Americans to many of the greatest wines that Europe has to offer; they have helped cultivate several generations of palates. “ — Slate

Kermit Lynch has been a pioneer, introducing “wines made in the unadulterated, old-school traditional style aimed at accentuating terroir” (New York Times) by vignerons whose names are now iconic. He was also the first importer to have wines shipped in refrigerated containers to avoid heat damage, now standard practice.

The Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant label on the back of each bottle includes a quote from Thomas Jefferson, “Good wine is a necessity of life for me”, so it is apt that we invite you to join us at L'Auberge Chez François on Jefferson's birthday, April 13th, for a dinner featuring selections from their French portfolio, presented by Thomas Morgan of Kermit Lynch.

L’Auberge Chez François 41st Anniversary Celebration Dinner

Date: April 20, 2017

L’Auberge Chez François’ 41st Anniversary Celebration Dinner
Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 6:30pm

Please join Chef Jacques, Paul Haeringer and the entire team at L’Auberge Chez Francois as we celebrate 41 years in Great Falls, Virginia with a festive anniversary dinner featuring the wines of Jean-Marc Brocard.

It was Francois “Papa” Haeringer who opened the restaurant on April 20, 1976 in Great Falls. After losing the space his original French restaurant in Washington D.C., Monsieur François looked around for a bucolic setting to open a new restaurant. He wanted its design to be quintessentially French country and reflect his Alsatian roots. He chose six acres off Springvale Road that used to house a car repair shop, a deli and a gun shop. The small commercial tracts development was personally overseen by François to create the cottage style, exposed timber restaurant that still sits on the property. His goal was to operate a restaurant with “a nice ambiance and good honest food at affordable prices.” The restaurant’s enduring popularity is a testimony to his success with this approach.

To add to this festive evening, we welcome Etienne Verdier from Domaine Brocard to guide us through the wonderful Chardonnays of Chablis. The wines will be paired with Chef Jacques’ delectable five course anniversary-inspired menu.  All Brocard wines will be available to purchase at a special anniversary pricing. Come join in what will be a memorable culinary and celebratory evening!

Earth Day Celebration Cooking Demonstration and Luncheon

Date: April 22, 2017

Earth Day Celebration Cooking Demonstration and Luncheon
Featuring the Sparkling Wines of Jean Charles Boisset and Master Saber Mathieu Gautier de Fossey
Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11:00am

We love our Mother Earth, and think it’s particularly important to devote a special day to demonstrate how much we care about the future of our planet.  Chef Jacques is equally devoted to developing and implementing “earth friendly” practices, such as local gardening and recycling, restoring and replenishing on the premises here at L’Auberge Chez Francois.  We all benefit when we join the race to make the world a better place.

Please join us for a very special Mother Earth Day celebratory cooking demonstration and luncheon, featuring the sparkling wines of Jean Charles Boisset, a leading proponent and practitioner of organic and Biodynamic® farming at each of its estates.

Joining us from France will be Boisset’s sparkling brand ambassador, Gautier Mathieu de Fossey, Master Saber. Gautier will discuss their wines, pairings and wine making styles. He then will guide guests through the history and ancient art of “sabering” (cutting corks off bottles whilst retaining all five fingers on each hand). We then choose ten “lucky draw” winners to participate in sabering our “No 21” Brut Cremant de Bourgogne, on the garden patio (weather permitting) paring with our first “Earth Day” Celebration course.  A fun and celebratory afternoon not to be missed!  Viva Mother Earth and Happy Earth Day!

Buena Vista “La Victoire” Brut Champagne

In partnership with the largest family-owned proprietors   of vineyards in Champagne, Buena Vista is proud to present our La Victoire Brut Champagne. This classic Champagne is made in the traditional style and is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Elegantly crafted, it offers the heritage of an incomparable style created to delight and make all great occasions special.

Grilled Shrimp with Garlic and Garden Herb Butter
JCB “No 21” Brut Cremant de Bourgogne

“Each JCB wine is known by a number. And each number has deep significance for Jean-Charles Boisset, the collection’s creator and namesake. Jean-Charles’ philosophy of wine has been profoundly shaped by the wine region where he was born and raised: Burgundy’s famous Côte d’Or, which translates to the Gold Coast. No. 21 honors this connection and heritage, for 21 is the French government’s “Department” number for the Côte d’Or”.

Garden Greens and Herbs Salad, Champagne Vinaigrette

Champagne Sorbet

Local Rockfish with Chesapeake Crabmeat, Mousseline Sauce, Garden Garnishes
Jean Charles Brocard “No 69” Brut Rose Cremant de Bourgogne

Jean-Charles was born in 1969, the year that mankind went to the moon. As such, 69 represents unlimited expression, freedom, creativity, intellectual revolution, artistry, and refinement. Of course, 69 is also a rosé brut based exclusively on pinot noir; a rosé that entwines masculinity and feminity.
